The EV Show, about EV conversion

Yes, I am promoting a business, it’s a small business, I have no hidden agenda, do not own part of the business, not associated with it, but, I do like performance cars and electric cars even more so, and that’s what they do.

EV West started an hour (or so) long show for people interested in converting a car to electric. EV West does conversions and also sells parts, chargers, and stuff you need for DIY EV conversion. Watching their videos you can learn a bit about electric car conversion or just follow their projects. I hope to one day have my car converted to electric, so, I enjoy this show, but, if you have any interest in electric cars, you may like this show.

The show is monthly, they refer to it as electric car info-tainment, and they will be adding a new show any day now (for March). For your convenience, below is posted the first three shows (they have improved the show each time).

EV Events September 2013

Here are some links to more information on EV events across the US. In future, I may consider doing a monthly calendar, if I can get it to work automatically, at least partially automatic anyway. (taking suggestions on that, haven’t tried, not sure how this will work w/WP).

This week I’ll be paying close attention to Apple announcements, but, the Frankfurt Motor Show is this week also, so be checking out my twitter feed for tweets & retweets on EVs at the show. My twitter feed has been moved to the bottom of the blog, just scroll down until you see it in the middle. (got a few pre-show tweets there now) Follow me if you haven’t yet. 🙂

New blog posts coming soon, including my no-b.s. EV glossary of terms. So, without further ado, check out these links for EV events in your area (I meant to do this last week, I’ll try to be earlier starting next month).

Electric Car Conversion (ICE to BEV)

My comprehensive no-B.S. glossary of alternative energy vehicle terms & acronyms is going to take a bit longer than anticipated. I may post it in three sections/posts. I will post this soon, and revamp my “categories”, and perhaps change the look of this blog at the same time. But, today, quick acronym terms: ICE=Internal Combustion Engine, BEV=Battery Electric Vehicle.

1991 MR2 ICE to BEV Conversion

Ok, so, this is not going to be comprehensive, just want to show you that vehicles can be converted to battery all-electric vehicles, which is something I want to do (have not looked into yet) with my Acura RSX. So, first, here is an example of a 1991 MR2 conversion:

Gladstone OR High School Project

Why Gladstone High School (Gladstone Electric Vehicle Organization) Wants to Build an Electric Truck.

“We want to see if a group of high school students, Oregon National Guard soldiers, teachers, parents, and community members can take a gas-powered Chevrolet S-10 and transform it into an electric vehicle that runs smoothly and efficiently without gasoline.”

I think this is a great idea, not only for a High School project, but I think making this may help bring back the small pickup, but it’ll be a BEV pickup!

Check out the video and article here (and maybe you can help, too): http://incited.org/projects/gladstone-electric-vehicle-organization-project-s10-e-it-s-electric

REFUEL 2013 Clean Power Motorsports Event (6/30/13)

Ok, so, I’m a new EV enthusiast and I was all confused when I found out EV race cars were at the Pikes Peak event (I already posted that a BEV placed 5th), and REFUEL EV event was going on the same weekend, I couldn’t find live coverage, I didn’t understand  what was going on and my head was spinning O_o. Why have these events at the same time? In any case, the REFUEL event is open only to clean powered vehicles and has several categories, cars, 2-wheelers, karts and sport electric TT (see: http://www.speedventures.com/the-line/SV_schedule_2013-06-30_refuel.pdfhttp://www.refuelraces.com/register.php )

So, I got ambitious and thought I’d make youtube playlists from the REFUEL events, however, I found plenty of coverage after the event, so, instead I have decided to post a single video here (let’s promote the little guys) and give you links to some  coverage I came across, and let you peruse on your own. Maybe next year I can attend or maybe even race! 🙂

Tesla Supercharger Announcement

Tesla is expanding their supercharger network, and installing faster chargers (demonstration coming June 20). Keep in mind, when Elon Musk says “free”, that is, supercharging is included with the purchase of the 85 kWh Model S’s, optional on smaller battery sizes (for a one-time price, same unlimited free super-charging deal).

Electrified Bugs Coming This Summer!

There’s a company transforming 1958-1967 VW Beetles into all-electric bugs! Check out this vid of the prototype:

See the prototype on the west coast starting Friday April 5th: “We’re telling the world. ZelectricBug is scheduled to debut at the Goodguys Meguiar’s 13th Del Mar Nationals on April 5th and 6th. Then on Sunday, April 7th, The Zelectric will be on display at the La Jolla Motor Car Classic on the beautiful Pacific coast. Hope to see you there! ” (quote from zelectricmotors.com)
